I am back and on track

I have just come back from Pauillac, where I spent some vacations with my family. It is always good to keep in touch with your family. As I have been in the US last year, it has been a while I haven't seen some of my relatives, and seeing everybody gathered for a great family reunion was just fantastic.

What was great also with these days off, is that I have been off line for a little while. It was actually not as hard as I thought it would be. Being off line allow you to get some fresh here, out of a web that is over crowded with information.

Now I have been able to get some new energies that will be needful in order to accomplish the different project and goals I have set for the next few weeks and months. I'll keep you update with all of that soon, I promise.

Anyways, I am happy to come back on track, and excited about the future.

Off for a month

I wanted to let you know my audience that I am going on vacations from August 6th 2008 to the end of the month. I am going on vacations at Pauillac, South West of France. Thus I won't be witting any blog post during this period of time.

It is always a positive thing to be away from the web for sometime.

What will I do:
  • Rest
  • Visit the wine country
  • See my family
  • Do some sport activities, running, pool
  • Work on my Spanish ( I am bringing two exercise books for that matter)
  • Read some books: I aim to finish the Victorian Internet that I talked about in this blog, and I would like to read Getting Things Done, in order to kick off perfectly my job search while I'll be back
  • I am working on various project. I am looking forward to helping the alumni association of my master to organize a dinner at the beginning of the month of November, and also see what we could create in terms of services to the alumni. I will also work on some other projects, including some thoughts about the social score, that might be the next "life time value" of customer relationship management.
Pauillac blogYou'll understand that I'll come up with brand new content when I'll be back to Paris. Feel free to leave me some comments if you want to get in contact with me.
Anyways, I wish you good luck, hope to see you while I'll be back.

NB: The left pictures show you the different wine castles settled in Pauillac.

Retailing in Columbia

Retailing in ColumbiaYou want to see some fascinating pictures of some retails in Columbia? Grégoire Kaufman, Commercial and marketing director of Ed France (Hard Discount subsidary of Carrefour) and former Merchandise director of Carrefour Columbia, has just opened his new blog, the retail art. The blog might be in French, but he shares with us some exceptional pictures of hypermarkets in Columbia, with a deep analysis about merchandising in this country.

I invite you to spend some times on this blog. You can see how the culture has a great impact on retailing, and how products are displayed and sold. Welcome Grégoire on the blogosphere.

PS: Thanks once more to Henri Kaufman, that has helped me discover this blog.

Online Videos have not killed TV

A lot of people are thinking that the arrival of online video services like Youtube would probably kill TV. We could hence see that TV companies' revenues are decreasing since two to three years. A new study shows that online viewers would rather see longer content.

Online video habitsIn this chart, we can see that US users would actually rather watch video on TV than on a computer. We can see also that the different results shows that some of the Internet video clichés are wrong: only 11% of people watch fewer TV shows on TV because they watch online videos, and 7% watch fewer DVDs because they watch online videos.

We can see that the TV medium still have somehow some future. Not because of the format, but mainly because TV offers a better comfort of viewing than a computer. We can therefore identify a challenge for online video websites: Enter the TV screen. I know that in France Dailymotion has a channel on cable TV (via the Neuf telecom box). We can expect more of that.

Long is better than short
The study report that "But full-length TV shows were ranked as the most highly desired type of TV content by US and Western European adult Internet users surveyed in Q1 2008 by Opinion Research Corporation for Accenture." Robert Scoble was also explaining in his blog why youtube should use long videos in order to generate more advertising revenues.

This chart is also killing the idealogy of the amateur videos generating more interests than professional ones. You can see that professional content (TV episodes, full-length movies and movie trailers) are by far what online videos consumers are seeking.

In the end, this study is really shaking the idea that amateur onine videos can at the moment compete with TV. What do you think about this study?
