Skype launch a mobile phone

This week is definitely mobile phone focused. Indeed, Google has launched its Android Project and now this is Skype that launches a mobile phone. Skype built a partnership with 3, an UK phone operator to launch a Skypephone.
The Skype phone will allow its users to call Skype users and to text (or Instant) message them for free.

Skype encountered some trouble those past weeks, as Ebay was deceived by the company's growth, its CEO, Niklas Zennstorm resigned last month, and people are questioning about the business modell of Skype. Not that Skype is not a successful software, as it counts 220 million users in the world, but people are wondering how it can turn this large audience into sales.

Skype also has to face new competition, with the VoIP (Voice over IP) technology being used by Internet and phone operators to offer free unlimited phone communication to its clients.

Now I think developing Skype on mobile phone is a high priority for the company. By the way, why would not Skype develop a Skype version for Windows Mobile? Anyway, Skype is looking for new ways to expand the brand and business modell, and I personnally believe they are on the good way.

What do you think about it? Will the Skype phone allow Skype to settle on this highly competitive mobile phone market?
